Like many others, during lockdown in 2020, I could not visit my studio as much as I would have liked but I was very fortunate to have a lovely garden which allowed me to create outdoors. So, on one of my studio trips I raided all my spray paints and grabbed a stack of reclaimed wood which I had collected many months before in the hope of using one day (the wood is from Camembert boxes as my studio is next door to a big cheese supplier in Edinburgh).
The paintings were created by spraying and masking paint, layer after layer. It was the perfect process during lockdown as I could dip in and out (around home schooling) as there was lots of drying time needed with each piece. This body of work on the surface is very different from my cut-out drawings, but many elements are similar. My love of bold block colour created with spray paint, mounting the round board with a drop shadow behind it. I loved layering up the colours and experimenting with overlapping and obscuring elements is something I am planning to explore further in other drawings.
